Two-Stage Implant Placement |
|
|
|
| Description |
In a two stage
procedure, the implant is surgically placed and covered over with the
gum tissue. Three or four months later, the gum tissue is opened and a
second piece is screwed into the implant to allow the soft tissue to heal
around the site. The teeth can then be made or attached. | | | Advantages |
The
implant remains protected throughout healing and there are some people that
believe this might be advantageous.
| | Disadvantages |
Requires
a second surgery. Additional time is necessary for healing from the second
stage surgery.
