Replacing A Fractured Implant

Several years ago, I inherited a very nice patient from California. He had some very extensive dental work performed by an outstanding periodontist and prosthodontist and he now located to Florida and I was asked to check up on him from time to time. He was doing real well until one day he walked in with a crown in his hand. The crown had been attached to a 3.3mm diameter ITI implant and the implant fractured.

Hind site is a wonderful thing... My assessment was that a larger implant should have been used to start with, but knowing the abilities of the dentist who originally placed the implant, I was not about to question him. I just discussed the options with the patient, including the use of a conventional fixed bridge, and made the appointment to remove the broken implant and place a new one.
