Dentistry has often
been defined as a combination of Art and Science and I really believe that
that is the case. Every day, we strive to make our patients whole. We want
them to look good, feel comfortable and to have totally healthy mouths. Most
of us are trained very well to do this. Your general dentist is the main person
responsible for your dental health and you should always consult him or her
before considering procedures which may be overstated or just not right for
you. In areas involving dental cosmetics, dental implants or major reconstructive
procedures, your general dentist might refer you to a Prosthodontist who has additional training in these areas. When someone without
real academic training in an approved dental specialty area tries to tell
you that they can provide something for you that your general dentist or prosthodontics
cannot, it is wise to question this. Always make sure that you have asked
around to make sure that other people are happy with the results and always
check with other dentists for a second or a third opinion. Most of all, rely
on your local practitioner and your Prosthodontist to help you asses the nature
of your dental needs.S. Robert Davidoff,
