Major Reconstruction with Maxillary Sinus Lift This module will explore the reconstruction of the dentition of a patient who is missing several teeth and has insufficient bone in the upper jaw for dental implants. Treatment begins with provisional restorations of all the remaining teeth to establish the soundness of those teeth and to set the stage for implant placement. Implants will be placed in the upper jaw (maxilla) and in the lower right jaw (mandible). In order to place the full compliment of implants in the upper right maxilla, it was necessary to grow some bone in the sinus. The sinus is an air space in the head (there are several of these sinuses, but the one we are concerned with is the maxillary right sinus. In order to grow this bone, is is necessary to cut a small window in the lateral wall of the sinus and fill the sinus with material that will provoke the body to form its own bone in that area. My material of choice for this procedure is freeze dried bone taken from cadavers and a form of bovine bone called Bio-Oss™ .
