Placement of Dental Implants in a Thin Ridge of Bone
|
In this photo, you can now see the
placement of both implants. The one in the thick side shows a classic
Brånemark placement with the head of the implant just below the
crest of bone. On the thin side, you can see the final seating of the
implant with the collar exposed on the labial (and also a little bit on
the palatal). The threads, however, are completely in bone. Later, when
both implants are uncovered and loaded, biological width will re-establish
the bone height around both implants and they will both have about a millimeter
and a half of collar ex posed...
Here is another look at the final
placement. The important thing to realize is that the collars of both
implants will eventually be exposed. If that is the case, it makes sense
to not worry too much about the thinness of the crestal bone at this stage.
It should be noted that the bone that was collected during drilling is
used to plump out the ridge on the thin side...
Here we are placing the cover screw
on the implant in the thin side of the ridge. You can get a better idea
of how the implant is seated in this thin bone. You can also see how the
same Drive-Lock™ is used to seat the cover screw. Neat system!
